On a slow moving Saturday, our friend Marina invited us to check out a local villa open to the public. Just on the other side of the river, and a steep 10 minute climb into Torino’s Colina, lies Villa Della Regina. Once used by Italian royalty, and later as a girls school for military families; this ancient home has sure seen better days. Party deteriorated by neglect, but more severely by damage during world war 2. (For example, most of the heads of the statues are no longer in-tact!) I found that its disarray led to its charm. In fact, it reminded me a lot of Frances Hodgsen Burnett’s Secret Garden, with its Italian style shrubbery and tiny pathways.. Photo’s weren’t allowed inside the villa, which was dripping of gold, oil paintings, and antique furniture; but here are a few of the surrounding grounds.
